Halloween 2010

It’s (or, it was) that time of year again. When we introduce our students to the strange and weird customs of Halloween. As always, the kids really embraced it. I guess it’s a pretty cool holiday – you get to dress up as whatever you want, and then people give you candy. What more could you want? As usual this proved a goldmine for photos, so… enjoy!
Some of the FT’s outfits. Left; Michael as a native American / Pochahontas. Center: Julian as the invisible man. Right: John as the modern day evil infidel, aka: An American Soldier.
Yes, that’s a feather duster on his head.
Halloween isn’t really celebrated or even known of in China, so the presence of masks like this was awesome.
Others had a much more home-made look to them.
“Cute”ness was represented just as well as “scary”ness. Oh, and that’s Lola posing with my guns. What was I? I was a cowboy. However, when you’re the one holding the camera; there aren’t any photos of me. π
Left: John getting mob’d for candy.
There was no lack of imagination.
The best in each class got a prize, and then the best-of-the-best from that period also received a prize. Judging was sometimes tough!
Julian apparently learned very quickly that teaching English when your mouth is covered is problematic.
Big tongues hanging out is often a feature in traditional Chinese ‘scary’ masks – so lots of the kid’s masks incorporated this.
Having a shiny face is always fun.
So is having a bag on your head!
Left: The classic ‘I forgot a costume so I’m gonna put my coat over my head’ – is pulled off with good effect.
Despite a native American impression that would make the village people cry – Michael’s outfit was highly photogenic.
I’m no psychiatrist, but if I was – I’d probably tell you that this kid is gonna grow up to have issues.
(P.S: I just spelt ‘psychiatrist’ so badly, not even spell-check knew what I was trying to spell. Oops.)
Lunchtime ” McDonald’s was done in full outfit.
After lunch the invisible man ‘appeared’ (haha! Pun intended.) re-bandaged.
John doing his thing. He actually got a flat-top just for Halloween. Dedication.
John and Lola on what looks like a DVD cover pose.
Left: Ivy. Super cute! Center: Kevin and Chris, two of my 5-year old FP1 students. Right: Lisa – also super cute!
Wrestling masks and scream masks, oh my!
Left: Lychee – also a cutie. Center: Joanne. Right: Vicky – Joanne and Vicky are both named after two of our former FTs – I know you’re reading! P.S: Vicky can’t pronounce the ‘V’ so it’s more like ‘Wicky.’
This kid’s mask was made out of a melon / grapefruit / pomelo skin – badass!
I missed the focus on this shot, but thought it was still worth posting.
Points of ghetto-creativity. A paper cup tied to her head!
We made the discovery that any outfit is instantly improved by the addition of Michael’s feather duster!
My FP2 class. Hooowwwww cute is Jenny? (the bunny)
The effort in this one was epic. He came to win, and win he did.
DIY Spongebob Squarepants – also pretty cool.
Left: Jim doing his best Julius Caesar impression. Centre & Right: Witches a plenty.
This outfit was genius – two similar jackets zipped together to form some sort of 4-armed monster!
Left: Dude had a freaking gas mask! How cool is that?! Centre and right: some of my super cute students! π
One of my long-time students, David.
Group photo with my PC3, you can just about make out my costume.
That was that for Halloween 2010, roll on 2011!
