I Climbed Hua Shan, again! (Part 2)

In continuation to part 1 here is the continuation of that post. It’s been pointed out to me that the trees on the mountains there look like eyelashes…
So, this was the scene at 7am. Just before sunrise. We woke up at about 6:30, and gear’d up, walked about 5minutes from the hostel to get to this view.
A nice outcrop. You really don’t wanna stand on there and look down.
An interesting obelisk at the peak.
Very photogenic early morning mist.
The sun trying to peak it’s head out. (picture left)
This is looking up at the place where we watched the sunrise when we climbed last year. It’s just a 2minute walk away. Last year, in summer, it was packed. As far as I could tell, there were just 3 people on that peak this time.
A kick-ass panorama. Click for big version!
And, one of my favourites of the day.
La la la….okay, that’s all the shots of the sunrise.
How much do you not want to go to this toilet.
This was the view out of the hostel “lobby.” Not bad. 😉
This was the view on my bed. Again, not bad.
Looking towards the south peak.
This was the walk up to the hostel.
A sign near one of the peaks, at 2,096m.
Random photo of a tree.
Make no mistake. Still cold. Areas like this don’t see the sun.
I think this sign means no burying people in snow.
This was one of the areas where those with vertigo need not go.
Taking these photos, I’ve never been so scared of dropping my camera.
Looking back at the hostel. Check those steps.
This means “I love you” in Chinese. (5…2…1. sounds a bit like “I…love…you.”) I worked out which way would be facing towards B, and took this picture. Awwh. I know. Cute. Okay, you can stop throwing up now. 🙂
Frank looking down and thinking.
This is the central peak.Again, check out the stairs.
This photo is my camera’s 20,000th photo! Woop! Happy birthday camera!
This doesn’t even need captioning.
This was a wishing well to throw money into on the peak of the mountain. Frozen. Meep!
I think this is for GPS, for gauging the height of the mountain. Maybe. It was in the ground at the very highest part.
Posing with Alice. She’ll get crazy kudos for this photo. On top of a mountain AND with a foreigner! Windy stuff too, check her hair.
Looking towards the west peak, and the chess playing pavilion.
Frank writing some poetry, as the highest guy around for a few hundred miles.
This is a huge 360′ panorama from the peak. Click for biggest version!
This tree had some interesting lean!
An interesting doorway. A doorway to heaven if you go through.
I like this panorama. From my foot to the sky.
Half way up the moderate flight of steps.
Magic Lotus Lamp Split Rock to rescue his mother.
Inside the chess playing pavilion.
Needless to say; this cat got down a lot quicker than I did.
So.., now we’re on our descent. You walk through the middle where the sun never shines. It’s cold and snowy.
So, at one point we were a bit naught, and jumped a sign that said a certain pathway was closed. This is why. Ice. Lots of ice. I consider myself to have pretty good balance; I went on my ass twice. Moving on…
This place had a very funnily translated name that I can’t quite remember. But, basically it’s a place for newly weds. 🙂
Frozen stream. Did I mention it was COLD?
Good advice. Due to falling on my ass. Camera went back in the bag for a small while.
An interesting before | after. (before on the left.) Old one was taken last June, one on the right from this trip.
Saw this guy carrying some Coca-cola. Despite this manual delivery method, a bottle of coke at the peak is still only 8RMB… (80pence)
Delivering red bull. Not as iconic as Coca-cola.
Yet another panorama, and yet more stairs. You bored of reading yet?
Saw this craziness on a bench. Any ideas? Weather observation? WiFi? Some sort of fuse / switch board?
Going down can get depressing. Harder on the legs too!
you spend a lot of time staring at the steps like this.
Took a few photos of these birds, and then headed home.
And that wraps up my Hua Shan photos. Right. Now just another gazillion photos to post, then I’m up to date. 🙂
