Continuing on from part one. Here are the photos from Day 2, which include a trip to the aquarium, a dinosaur park and a small “snack street.”
Day two’s map, for those interested.
Made our way to the Polar World aquarium, which has a strange dinosaur park next to it. We decided to check it out.
This was the toilet building; very cool!
Outside the aquarium, a cool fountain.
…and a gazillion Chinese people!
P…p…p…pick up a penguin!
or a few!
Quite a bored looking polar wolf.
Some of the cool scenery.
Some kind of animal.
Some of the Chinglish signage.
False alarm. It’s just people using animals as surf boards. Is that more, or less offensive?!
Some of the crowd meeting the animals. One thing that really impressed me is how they made them wash their hands in a sink of the tank-water before they could touch them. China isn’t hugely into health and safety, especially for non-humans, so… this made me feel a lot better about the place.
Obligatory jumping dolphin photo.
I want to be able to swim and produce this kind of wake.
Then, outside for another show.
These ones even waved goodbye. Dolphins are so over-rated.
Guy on the left; break dancing. Guy on the right; doing sit-ups. Dolphins — so last year.
Amazing how you can read this sign. Then you realise; it’s the worst English evar.
Couldn’t get my head around this snack. Half ice-cream. Half meat. All wrong.
This European looking building was the german HQ during their control of Qingdao…
This cool little area roughly translates as “log burning alley” and it was some very tight twisty alleys of restaurants and gift vendors. Quite quaint.
Finally, on the bus on the way back to the hotel I saw this. A little piece of Britain in China. A trip to Wikipedia revealed that B&Q are the largest DIY depot in both the UK and China. In the UK, it’s understandable: They have 331 stores. But in China, they accomplish this feat with only 63 stores, and China is MASSIVE. I guess DIY isn’t very popular in China; after all — labour is so cheap.
Part three coming soon.
P.S: Bye bye England. 🙁 Watched the game in the same place as last time. That entire street of Chinese people can now say, fluently; “THE REF IS TOTALLY BLIND, WHAT THE ****?!!!!”
