Beitang Sports Day – May 2011

So, every summer Beitang holds a sports day. In 2011 there were two. They have the usual sports day for the school, then there is an inter-school sports day for all of the schools in Weinan. In 2011 it was Beitang’s turn to play host. None of the sports were particularly ‘serious’ sports, but some of the various school’s PE teachers were taking it quite seriously…
When I got there, some of my old students were there.
Each team had a ‘flower girl’ with their school’s name on.
Quite a few schools represented.
A flower girl getting a talking to.
Various ‘leaders’ from the education board.
Of course, it had it’s very own opening ceremony.
More opening ceremony shenanigans.
The dancers weren’t perfectly in sync.
But… I can’t do that, so, I shan’t complain.
Then the start of the events. First: the three-legged race. Or…rather… thirty-legged race.
Jeans for school sports uniform? Whoever thought of that needs to be shot.
Knee protectors – this team had the right idea.
The finishing line.
They fell over a lot, but every time they did I felt bad taking photos.
They were tied TIGHT at the start, and by the time they got to the finish line they were even tighter.
An empty space where the leaders should be. They only stayed for the start opening ceremony before disappearing. I mean, who’d actually want to watch the sports day. *rolls eyes*
The next event, again, involved being tied together. The pairs then had to side-straddle their way to victory.
The start line of the running track… it wasn’t used at all throughout the sports day.
Some of Beitang’s P.E. Faculty.
Another sport. This one was holding two batons and trying to run with a ball balanced on them; you’re not allowed to touch the ball.
Even if the sports weren’t serious; the starting pistol was.
With the events over as quickly as they begun, I said goodbye and left.
