Weinan Teacher’s University 50th Anniversary
Comments Published May 21st, 2010 in Event Photography, Photography
Last week Weinan Teachers University (B’s university also known as 渭南师范学院 ) celebrated it’s 50th anniversary, and celebrate they did. B and I went along with our cameras, but we were met with a huuuuge crowd. Luckily I’m acquainted with the head of the school’s dance society, who would be heading up lots of the performances of the night. With backstage access secured, we enjoyed the show and took plenty of pictures…
Arriving at B’s school, B posed with her sign for a photo, as it would be one of her last visits to the campus.
A group of the dancers. My friend is front row, on the left of the photo.
Not to be accused of only taking photos of pretty girls; here are some hunks. Check those muscles! 😛
But personally, I prefer the pretty dresses.
The crowd started to form. Just a few rows of seats for various VIPs, then a LOT of people standing.
The excitement was building before the start.
Quite a crowd for a university birthday celebration!
Then the lights slowly came up on the first performers.
A drumming / string instrument / dance combo. Pretty good stuff!
There were lots of moments of just talking. None of which I really understood. This left me with nothing really to do apart from take photos. This is how I ended up with 1000 photos.
I thought this guy kinda looked like a Chinese Obama.
Photographers in various shades of light. The lights kept changing like crazy, which made the white balance really hard to capture.
Im sure they were saying something important.
One of my friends, a worker at 121 photography.
This woman had some serious lungs on her.
From what I could gather, this guy was mildly famous.
These girls had a song and dance about the university. It was quite good.
Now the white dancers were back, this time in gold.
Anyone who has seen Iron Man 2 will find these outfits familiar. I’ve seen the first 40mins of Iron Man 2*.
This guy was rocking out with a mean power stance.
I liked the colours in this shot.
If ever you’re lost and trying to find your way to me, this means “Weinan.” 🙂
Then there was a fashion show of old and new fashions.I guess the outfits were designed by students.
Me and some of my photographer buddies.
B took this shot. I like it. 🙂
One last performance from a big orchestra / choir.
And voila. The four hour spectacular was over, and the folks went home. Happy birthday Weinan Teachers University!!!
* Why have I only seen the first 40mins of Iron Man 2? Well, I went to the cinema the other day to check it out, and 40mins in the projector broke. Soooo angry. So many things breaking lately! 🙁 Which means yes, I’m still writing this on B’s computer, the keyboard of which I do not get along with AT ALL. So, I’ll end it here, bye bye!

拍的非常棒!
i came to the school on may 31. too bad i missed it
weinan teachers university is such a beautiful school
Hi my friend,
I am so impressed with your pictures. It brings me the best experience of photography that I have ever had in terms of color, balance, and content of your shots.
As an ESL teacher of some universities in Xi’An, I understand and admire the vibrant energy of school life and the students (students are like that all over the world, right?) in Shaanxi in particular. Could I ask if you can help me to obtain the video copy of the show and give me one via post or electronic medium? I would like to thank you so much and will take care of the generated costs when needed.
Sincerely,
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
I don’t actually teach at that university, however, I will ask around to see if I can obtain a video of the evening. I know there were people there shooting video, so I will see what became of that. No guarantees though, as it’s not “my” school. 🙂
Thanks for the comments,
Joe
Hi Joe,
Thank you so much. I wish I was there that evening, and now I would be very exciting to see the show on DVD if possible. Thanks again for your kind help if the disk is available. Are you in Weinan still or back to Xian?
